Physical condition and technical requirements

Being able to reach this corner of the Patagonia region says a lot about you:  you probably can’t wait to set off into the wilderness, and aren’t afraid of the wind, rain or the tough terrain.

It doesn’t matter how old you are, but what is important is that you are healthy and that your physical condition is good enough to cycle three to five hours on routes like this one.

Are the routes difficult?

You should have some experience riding a mountain bike in a similar location.

The technical requirements for the routes and journeys that are possible with our Surí eBikes are set out in each technical datasheet, which uses international standards (IMBA)

To find out more, take a look at the datasheet <here>.

If you want to read some mountain biking tips, go to the section “Before setting off

This initiative is the result of our desire to make these remote places more accessible for everyone.

This is for anyone with drive and who is ready for the adventure of exploring remote Patagonia, to breath the air, admire the colours and feel free and complete.

A Surí electric bike makes this journey easier,
BUT DOES NOT MAKE UP FOR NOT HAVING EXPERIENCE OR FEELING CONFIDENT
It is important to take a lot of care when cycling these bikes.

To find out more, take a look at the datasheet <here>.

For safety reasons, we only allow groups of at least three people to go out. But it is possible to hire just one Surí eBike.
The Huella de Los Glaciares trail between Argentina and Chile is wonderful, BUT IT IS FOR GROUPS ONLY.

In fact, if travelling alone (you are in the minority) this precisely is the best part:
The opportunity to meet fellow travellers and spend time with them on part of your great journey.

What you need to know about eBikes

What you need to know about an eBike and how it operates is the same as with a standard bicycle, for example, how to change the gears, how to go uphill and downhill, etc.

Our eBikes work like a normal bicycle, but the difference is they provide assistance, simulating the effect of having much stronger legs.

They don’t provide bursts of power but rather are intuitive and easy to use.

Decide the level of assistance depending on the terrain, and use the gears to maximise the performance of the motor, without wearing it out.

The eBike detects the amount of effort and then automatically supplies the power.

WEIGHT:

Be more careful on moderate to steep downhill sections. Remember that these bikes are heavier (e.g. 21kg compared with 13kg for a normal bicycle)

USE THE GEARS:

Effective use of the gears is key to preventing the motor from failing.

DON’T STOP PEDALLING:

If you stop pedalling, the eBike will also stop, even in turbo mode.

If you don’t feel confident or don’t have basic cycling skills, or if you have problems with balance, changing the gears or even braking, an eBike may not be the best option for you.

An eBike will not make up for not having experience or feeling confident.

If you have never ridden an electric bicycle before, MAKE SURE TO TELL US.

There are four levels of assistance and trekking mode. The electrical assistance can also be deactivated:

OFF: ride without electrical assistance

ECO: provides the minimum assistance for riding on flat roads and smooth surfaces

TOUR: provides a good power distribution for normal cycling

E-MTB: provides more assistance for steep slopes and unsurfaced paths

TURBO: provides the maximum power for mountains

Between 30km and 90km, depending on the battery, weight of the cyclist, terrain, weather, speed, level of assistance selected and level of pedalling.
The motor is designed to switch off if the bicycle reaches 25 kmph

That is the idea – to use it only when you need a little push 😉
